Communication all the way down

It has always been and will always be about communication.

Without communication…

-coordination won’t exist

-trust won’t be established

-partnerships will battle to be formed

-future paths of collaboration can’t be explored

-Experiments can’t be run

-Feedback can’t be gathered

Through time we, as humans, have sought methods to reduce uncertainty. However the more I think about it, we have been experimenting with new ways for communicating across boundaries (physical, geographical, digital, language, culture) to allow for smoother communication.

Communication mechanisms/methods cycle through phases based on the environmental contexts that create constraints. Moving from small (controlled) to large (distributed) scales before maxing out and having to be rethought to address emerging constraints in new environments.

This is why I think it is communication all the way down and it’s worth while realising that the means of communication isn’t only the spoken word. Vibrations offer a metaphor for finding ways to communicate with one another. The value of the unsaid and the foundation of trust.

“Elephants communicate primarily through sounds or vocalisations known as “rumbles”. These rumbles have fundamental frequencies in the infrasonic range below 30 Hertz, which means that they cannot be heard by humans…” A rather random yet intentional metaphor, one that gets me thinking about how we might connect in different ways using signals that are ‘unsaid’.

By nurturing relational trust economies. We’re continuously looking for more efficient ways to pass information between communication nodes that are better attuned to the environmental/technological contexts in which we live.
